Third-Party Risk Fuels Regulatory Uncertainty in OT Security

Nov 12, 2025

A recent global survey by Claroty found that while 69% of cybersecurity professionals say they're closely adhering to cybersecurity standards, 76% reported that they expect emerging regulations to require them to overhaul their current security strategies. "On one hand we have people saying we're going to meet regulation as it is based on best practices. On the other hand, those same people said, we'll have to change everything. That tells me people really don't know what the regulations are going to do," said Sean Tufts, field CTO at Claroty. Third-party risk has emerged as a major concern for both regulators and cybersecurity teams. The survey of 1,100 cyber professionals found that nearly half of organizations with cyber-physical systems have been breached in the last 12 months because of third-party access, and 54% reported discovering security gaps or weaknesses in vendor contracts post-incident. In this video interview with Information Security Media Group, Tufts also discussed: Geopolitical shifts disrupting supply chains; The potential impact of increased regulation on security programs; Securing programmable logic controllers, distributed control systems and SCADA systems. Tufts works closely with customers, partners and internal teams to drive technical strategy, elevate field execution and ensure Claroty's platform continues to deliver tangible outcomes. Tufts has 20 years of experience in industrial cybersecurity and go-to-market leadership. His career includes leading roles at GE and Optiv, and he has been a driving force in helping asset-intensive industries navigate the intersection of OT, IT and cyber risk management.
