Niedrigere Einstiegshürden – von No-Code-Tools bis zu stärkeren Founder-Netzwerken – haben einer neuen Generation von Buildern über alle Altersgruppen hinweg die Tür geöffnet. Die unternehmerische Denkweise breitet sich global aus, und Europa steht im Zentrum dieser Entwicklung, heißt es in dem vielbeachteten Bericht, der jährlich von VC Atomico rund um Niklas Zennström herausgegeben wird. Asien und USA holen auf, Europa behält knappen Vorsprung Europa hält noch die Spitzenposition bei der absoluten Zahl der Founder, doch die Dynamik verschiebt sich. Der Kontinent liegt beim Anteil an den weltweiten Gründern nur noch knapp vor den USA, während Asien mittlerweile gleichgezogen hat und nun ebenfalls 28 Prozent der globalen Founder stellt. Dennoch zeigt sich ein positiver Trend: Über das vergangene Jahrzehnt sind europäische Founder eher geneigt, ihre Companies vom Kontinent aus aufzubauen. Rund vier von fünf europäischen Gründern bauen auf heimischem Boden, ein Anteil, der seit 2016 positiv tendiert und selbst im vergangenen Jahr stabil blieb. Besonders bemerkenswert entwickelt sich der AI-Sektor: Der Anteil der AI-Founder, die in Europa Startups bauen, ist von 74 auf 81 Prozent gestiegen. Europa bleibt für die überwältigende Mehrheit der Founder das Launchpad der ersten Wahl. Diese Zahlen belegen, dass der Kontinent seine Attraktivität als Gründungsstandort nicht nur hält, sondern in bestimmten Bereichen sogar ausbaut. US-Gründungen verdoppeln sich Ein genauerer Blick auf erfahrene europäische Founder offenbart jedoch eine beunruhigende Entwicklung. Bei jenen, die ihre erste Gründererfahrung in Europa sammelten und 2016 gründeten, hatten 10 Prozent ihre Startups in den USA mit Hauptsitz angesiedelt. 2025 hat sich dieser Anteil auf 18 Prozent nahezu verdoppelt. Das bedeutet nicht zwingend, dass die Founder selbst umziehen, es zeigt aber eine wachsende Präferenz für die Incorporation in den USA, wo die Unternehmensgründung schneller und günstiger abläuft und oft als Gateway zu US-Kunden und Investoren dient. Um diesem Trend entgegenzuwirken, muss Europa zum attraktivsten Ort der Welt werden, um ein generationenübergreifendes Unternehmen aufzubauen. „Jeder Founder, der geht, weil er außerhalb Europas bessere Perspektiven sieht, ist einer zu viel. Die Herausforderung besteht darin, die Rahmenbedingungen so zu gestalten, dass Gründer nicht im Hard-Mode arbeiten müssen“, heißt es weiter. Die nächste Welle europäischer Outlier-Founder – von Synthesia, n8n und Framer bis zu Lovable, DeepL und ElevenLabs – beweise, dass es möglich ist. Sie zeigen, dass weltklasse Innovation nicht Europa verlassen muss, um global zu skalieren, schildert der Report.
