Today's date PM2.5 O₃ SHARE ABCDEFG SEOUL, Oct. 30 (Yonhap) -- Invest Korea Summit (IKS), South Korea's signature foreign investment festival, kicked off in the largest scale ever on Thursday in connection with the ongoing Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) gathering this week, the industry ministry said. The event, aimed at attracting foreign investment to Korea, will run through Friday in Seoul, bringing together some 2,000 officials from global and local companies, business organizations and diplomatic missions, according to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Resources. The ministry said this year's event has been arranged at the largest-ever scale in connection with the APEC CEO Summit, the official business gathering of the annual APEC leaders' summit, currently under way in the southeastern city of Gyeongju. The main theme of the IKS will be artificial intelligence (AI), one of main policy agendas of the Lee Jae Myung administration. Naver Cloud Corp. CEO Kim Yu-won and FuriosaAI CEO June Paik are set to deliver a keynote speech on the vision of sovereign AI and next step of the cutting-edge technology. During the event, seven global companies will hold a joint ceremony reporting a combined US$550 million investment pledges in the ocean winds, semiconductor, cultural content, food and other industries. "South Korea is an attractive investment destination for global companies, and foreign investment has played a significant role in boosting the industrial competitiveness of Korea," Vice Industry Minister Moon Shin-hak said in his opening remarks. The Korean government will continue its efforts to bolster the country's competitiveness in advanced industries, diversify export markets and upgrade support system for foreign investment amid global economic uncertainties, he added.
