$56 Million Development Emerges Amid ESPN-YouTube TV Standoff

Nov 14, 2025

For the 14th consecutive day, YouTube TV's parent company, Google, and ESPN are in the midst of a disagreement that has led millions of fans to miss marquee college football games. The blackout has forced fans to either cancel their subscription entirely or purchase weekend passes through other services. As of Thursday, the only positive step in the right direction was YouTube TV offering subscribers a $20 voucher in a measly effort to appeal to the frustrated masses. With another huge weekend of football on the horizon, things don't appear to be getting any closer to a solution as revealed in a recent Sports Businesses Journal report. Disney's CFO Hugh Johnston made it clear that they won't be backing down from the fight, as the two companies play what seems to be a never ending game of chicken. "We're ready to go as long as they want to," Johnston said A surprising stance considering how much money it has cost them. As confirmed by SBJ, Disney is estimated to be losing $4 million per day throughout the ordeal. "Now at 14 days, it's the longest blackout Disney has faced with an MVPD in recent history and it's costing the company ~$4M/day, according to estimates," wrote SBJ. Using that number, that equates to a loss of $54 million for Disney. Some notable games that YouTube TV subscribers will miss out on include No. 11 Oklahoma vs No. 4 Alabama (ABC), No. 10 Texas vs. No. 5 Georgia (ABC) and No. 24 USF vs. Navy. A tough blow for fans that doesn't appear to be close to a resolution by any means.
