시카고, 양자컴퓨팅 중심지로…'일리노이 퀀텀 파크' 1단계 착공 옛 U.S. 스틸 제철소 부지, 2027년 완공 목표로 세계 최대 양자 혁신단지 조성 컴퓨팅 입력 :2025/11/10 10:25 미국 시카고 남부의 옛 제철소 부지가 세계적 양자컴퓨팅 연구단지로 탈바꿈한다. 10일(현지시간) 퀀텀인사이더 등 외신에 따르면 리레이티드 미드웨스트와 클레이튼 리얼에스테이트그룹은 '일리노이 퀀텀 앤드 마이크로일렉트로닉스 파크(IQMP)'가 1단계 공사에 착수했다고 밝혔다. 기업과 학계, 연구기관이 협력하는 '양자 생태계 허브'를 목표로 설계됐다. 이를 위해 양자컴퓨팅을 위한 대규모 극저온 냉각 플랜트와 연구소, 대학·민간기업 공동 연구공간 등이 들어선다. 일리노이 퀀텀 앤드 마이크로일렉트로닉스 파크(IQMP) 조감도(이미지=사이퀀텀) 해당 부지는 일리노이 국제항만지구 내에 위치해 안정적인 전력 공급이 가능하고 대형 인프라를 구축할 수 있는 넓은 부지를 갖췄다. 이러한 조건이 극저온 환경을 필요로 하는 양자컴퓨팅 연구에 최적이라는 평가를 받았다. IQMP의 첫 입주 기업은 사이퀀텀(PsiQuantum)이다. 사이퀀텀은 빛의 입자인 '광자'를 활용해 양자비트를 구현하는 기술을 연구하고 있으며 극저온 환경에서 작동하는 양자 프로세서를 개발 중이다. 프로젝트 설계와 시공에는 글로벌 기술기업이 대거 참여했다. WSP가 전체 설계와 엔지니어링을 총괄하고 라마 존슨 콜래버러티브(Lamar Johnson Collaborative)가 건축 디자인을 클레이코(Clayco)가 시공을 맡았다.
