Agencies Investment firm Groww has expanded its lead in India’s retail broking market , adding about 1.38 lakh demat accounts in October 2025 even as the broader industry witnessed a contraction, according to latest data from the National Stock Exchange ( NSE ). Groww’s total active accounts now stand at 1.2 crore, maintaining its position as the country’s largest brokerage by client base. Among peers, Zerodha , Angel One , and Upstox saw monthly declines of 62,000, 34,000, and 59,000 accounts, respectively. HDFC Securities, Kotak Securities, and Motilal Oswal have also seen their accounts decline during the period. Overall, the number of active demat accounts across the top 25 brokers fell to 4.52 crore in October from 4.72 crore in July. Groww, Zerodha, and Angel One together account for over 57% of NSE’s demat accounts, indicating the dominance of digital-first platforms in India’s retail investment space. Groww alone commands an estimated 26.6% market share , followed by Zerodha with 15.5% and Angel One with 15.1%. Some traditional players, however, have benefited moderately. ICICI Securities and SBI Caps recorded increases of 13,000 and 25,000 accounts, respectively, while Paytm Money added nearly 30,000 accounts during the month. Despite the cautious environment, the growth in Groww’s base indicates the interest among new and existing retail investors. Bengaluru-based Groww is gearing up for its public listing on the Indian exchanges on November 12. The company’s Rs 6,632 crore IPO was subscribed 17.6 times, with 641.86 crore bids received against the 36.47 crore shares on offer.
