Après le cuivre, le suisse Mercuria annoncé sur le coltan en RDC

Date de création: 13 novembre 2025 03:20 (Agence Ecofin) - Aux côtés de Glencore, Mercuria est l’autre négociant suisse qui monte en puissance ces derniers mois en RDC. Déjà partenaire de la Gécamines pour la commercialisation d’une partie de la production congolaise de cuivre, Mercuria a annoncé fin octobre 100 millions $ pour en acheter auprès d’ERG. Le négociant suisse Mercuria poursuit sa croissance dans les minerais stratégiques en RDC. Après avoir conclu fin octobre un accord de 100 millions USD avec Eurasian Resources Group (ERG) pour financer la production congolaise de cuivre, le groupe envisage désormais une incursion dans le coltan, minerai de tantale essentiel aux technologies de pointe. Selon des sources proches du dossier citées par Bloomberg, Mercuria étudie la possibilité d’un partenariat avec la société d’investissement TechMet pour moderniser l’exploitation du coltan à Rubaya, dans l’est de la RDC. Le projet porterait sur l’un des gisements de tantale les plus riches au monde, mais situé en zone de conflit et contrôlé depuis plus d’un an par le groupe rebelle M23. Tout investissement devrait donc dépendre d’un accord de paix que Washington tente de négocier entre Kinshasa et Kigali accusé de soutenir les rebelles. Basée à Dublin, TechMet compte parmi ses actionnaires l’agence américaine DFC et le fonds souverain du Qatar. Elle détient déjà des participations dans Trinity Metals, producteur d’étain, de tungstène et de tantale au Rwanda. Sa collaboration avec Mercuria s’inscrirait dans un cadre plus large de partenariats américano-congolais destinés à attirer des capitaux occidentaux notamment dans les filières du cuivre, du cobalt et du lithium. Pour le moment, aucune des compagnies citées n’a réagi. Au-delà de la pacification de la zone minière ciblée par TechMet et Mercuria, il leur faudra lever d’autres obstacles pour s’y établir. Si des échanges préliminaires auraient déjà eu lieu avec l’administration américaine, l’implication des autorités congolaises fait encore défaut. La société publique congolaise SAKIMA est par ailleurs le détenteur officiel du permis minier qui couvre les ressources de coltan à Rubaya. Emiliano Tossou
