NTTと東芝、IOWNとクラウド型PLCで300km先の生産設備を高速制御 NTTと東芝は、NTTの次世代情報通信基盤「IOWN（Innovative Optical & Wireless Network）」技術と東芝のクラウド型PLC（プログラマブル・ロジック・コントローラー）を活用した遠隔制御実験を実施し、約300km離れた拠点から制御周期20ミリ秒以内での制御に成功した。この遠隔制御技術が実用化できれば、PLCの設定情報をクラウド上でメンテナンスすることにより生産ラインの設定を変更できるようになる。現地に担当者を派遣するのに比べて工数を削減でき、複数の工場をまたいだ生産性向上も期待できるという。 共同実験の概要。約300km離れた拠点から工場の生産設備を制御し、20ミリ秒以内の周期で制御できた。（出所：NTT、東芝） [画像のクリックで拡大表示] 共同実験では、NTTのIOWN構想の中核技術であるAPN（All Photonics Network）とRDMA（Remote Direct Memory Access）アクセラレーション技術、東芝が開発したクラウド型PLC「Meister Controller Cloud PLCパッケージ typeN1」を使用した。両社は、NTT武蔵野研究開発センタ（東京都武蔵野市）に模擬環境を構築。300km離れた工場に設置された生産設備をクラウド型PLCで制御し、制御周期20ms以内の遠隔設備制御に成功した。 共同実験の構成。クラウド型PLCを用いて、工場のRDMA対応カメラやベルトコンベヤーを制御した。（出所：NTT、東芝） [画像のクリックで拡大表示] さらに実験では、NTTドコモソリューションズ（東京・港、旧NTTコムウェア）の画像認識AI（人工知能）ソリューション「Deeptector」とRDMAアクセラレーション技術を用いた製品の外観検査も実施した。その結果、1設備につき250ミリ秒でのAI外観検査に「製造業界で初めて」（NTT、東芝）成功。300km離れた地点間でもローカル環境と同等の水準で外観検査を実施できたとする。外観検査AIのクラウド移行により、「クラウドの柔軟性を生かした運用が実現」（同）し、複数工場での品質の標準化も可能になるという。 両社は今後、APNを活用したクラウド型PLCサービスの実装に向けて、サービスの内容や体制を具体化していく。2027年度以降の実用化を目指すとしている。PLCと外観検査AIに加えて、故障予兆AIなどの高度演算処理のクラウド移行を図り、設備管理工数の削減やクラウドリソースの有効活用、電力消費の最適化につなげる。これらにより、工場全体のさらなる効率化を推進するという。 実験で用いた技術のうちIOWN APNは、ネットワークから端末までの全てを光で処理することにより、従来の電子ベースの技術に比べて消費電力と遅延を抑えながら速度と容量を向上させる技術だ。RDMAアクセラレーション技術は、RDMA通信を中長距離へ延伸するもの。IOWN APNを介することにより、短距離での大容量低遅延データ転送が可能なRDMA通信の転送性能を維持しながら延伸が可能になる。typeN1は、制御機能をクラウド上に実装する仕組みや独自のクラウド・エッジ間通信を特徴とする。従来は現地で行われていたPLCによる制御系システムの構築・メンテナンス作業をクラウド上で完結できる。 共同実験で確認した技術について東芝は、「IIFES2025」（2025年11月19～21日、東京ビッグサイト）に出展する。会期中は、東京ビッグサイト（東京・江東）とNTT武蔵野研究開発センタを商用APN回線でつなぎ、遠隔制御のデモンストレーションを実施する予定だ。NTTも、「NTT R&Dフォーラム2025」（同月19～26日、NTT武蔵野研究開発センタ）で同技術を紹介する。 松田 千穂（まつだ・ちほ）
